Durban Super Giants coach Allan Donald was elated following the signing of Shamar Joseph for the upcoming season of the SA20 2025. The West Indies international made a significant impact in red-ball cricket, which impressed the former South Africa pacer and that resulted in him investing in Shamar for the next season. However, Donald clarified that the pacer was not their first choice as the franchise wanted to have Richard Gleeson in the mix and he ended up being happy for having Shamar.

The 57-year-old explained that the goal was to build a strong pace unit and he believes that Shamar fits in quite easily. He added that the think tank also considered Ireland pacer Joshua Little but backed Shamar looking at his success against Australia earlier in the year.

“We were sitting around the table this evening and we were looking at getting Richard Gleeson. He's very good at what he does in this format of the game. We lost out, and we quickly had to go again. Should we go for Josh Little? So we go for Shamar Joseph? So eventually it came down to the youngster. So for us, it was easy because we needed two overseas fast bowlers because you have to have enough in your arsenal,” Donald told MyKhel.

Meanwhile, Shamar represented Durban’s sister franchise Lucknow Super Giants in IPL 2024. He played just one game against Kolkata Knight Riders and proved to be costly. After that, the franchise did not trust him again with the role. He played eight games for Guyana Amazon Warriors in the CPL 2024 and picked up nine wickets at an economy rate of 9.31.
