David Bedingham played an important role for Sunrisers Eastern Cape in SA20 2025. He opened the batting and played some quickfire knocks to help the two-time champions reach the final in the third edition of the tournament.

It was recently reported that the right-handed batter was set to tie the knot with fiancée Jenna van Niekerk over this weekend, but realised that he had inadvertently put himself in a spot of bother as the SA20 2025 was scheduled for Saturday, February 8. Bedingham decided to postpone the wedding to Sunday to play the summit clash.

“The wedding was booked and planned, but then SEC made the final, so now he has moved the wedding to tomorrow,” claimed South African cricket reporter Firdose Moonda, indicating that thankfully an alternative presented itself to Bedingham.

Sunrisers had a huge opportunity to win three consecutive SA20 titles. They finished at No. 3 on the points table at the end of the league phase and defeated Joburg Super Kings and Paarl Royals in the Eliminator and Qualifier 2, respectively.

The final was played at The Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg on Saturday, February 8 between Sunrisers Eastern Cape and MI Cape Town. The latter won the toss and opted to bat first. Ryan Rickelton, Connor Esterhuizen, and Dewald Brevis played swashbuckling knocks to help Cape Town reach 181/8 in their 20 overs.

In reply, Sunrisers were bowled out for just 105 in 18.4 overs to suffer a 76-run defeat. Tom Abell top-scored for the losing side with a 25-ball 30. Meanwhile, Bedingham only managed five off eight balls. Kagiso Rabada bagged a four-for, but Trent Boult won the Player of the Match award after finishing with stunning bowling figures of 2/9 in four overs.
