SA20 Auction: Final squads of all six teams
Young Proteas player Tristan Stubbs grabbed eyeballs and bagged the highest bid of 9.2 million Rand
The first-ever auction of the inaugural SA20 league concluded successfully on Monday, September 19 and the six teams finally got their full squads. Tristan Stubbs, a sensational young batsman from South Africa, sparked a bidding war, and Sunrisers Eastern Cape ended up acquiring his services for an astounding 9.2 million rand (USD 500,000 plus).
All six teams in the SA20 league are owned by the Indian Premier League Franchises- MI Cape Town (Reliance), Pretoria Capitals (JSW), Paarl Royals (Royals Sports Group), Durban Super Giants (RPG-Sanjiv Goenka), Johannesburg Super Kings (India Cements), and Sunrisers Eastern Cape (Sunrisers Hyderabad owner Kaviya Maran).
After Stubbs, Rilee Roussouw and Marco Janse grabbed attention as they were the other two players to cross the R6M mark. While Roussouw was bought by Pretoria Capitals for R6.9M, Jansen was bought by Sunrisers Eastern Cape for R6.1M. While many players earned big, Proteas skippers Dean Elgar and Temba Bavuma, alongside the experienced Andile Phehlukwayo went unsold.
Wayne Parnell and Sisanda Magala, two all-arounders, secured deals worth more than R5.0M. New Zealand star James Neesham and former English white-ball skipper Eoin Morgan were initially unsold but were later acquired by the Paarl Royals and the Pretoria Capitals, respectively. The Joburg Super Kings signed an unheard Donovan Ferreria for a staggering R5.5M. Quinton de Kock and Heinrich Klassen, two of South Africa's top wicketkeeper-batters, will both play for the Durban Super Giants.
