The schedule of the inaugural edition of the SA20 has been announced with all the fixtures and their respective venues.
The SA20 2023 is scheduled to begin on January 10 with MI Cape Town and Paarl Royals scheduled to play the season opener in Cape Town. The top-tier South African league will run from January 10 to February 11, though it will be halted between January 25 and February 1 when the Proteas will host England for a three-match ODI series.
The lucrative T20 league comprises 33 matches to be played as all teams will cross swords with each other twice in a traditional home-and-away format during the league followed by two semi-finals and the final.
Cape Town, Durban, Paarl and Gqeberha will be the host venues for the initial phase of the competition, which is for the league stage. Johannesburg and Centurion will play hosts for the elimination rounds of the month-long event.
The league has six teams - MI Cape Town, Durban Super Giants, Joburg Super Kings, Paarl Royals, Pretoria Capitals and Sunrisers Eastern Cape. All the six teams will be competing for the coveted title.
After the failures of the Mzansi Super League, SA20 marks South Africa's another attempt to run and sustain a T20 league in the country. The tournament’s agenda is to groom the local players while giving them the opportunity to play alongside the high-profile cricketers.
The league is set to offer total prize money of 70 million rands (Rs 33.5 crore approx.) - the biggest purse in the history of South African franchise cricket.
