Saba Karim disagrees with Rohit Sharma's decision to drop himself out of Sydney Test

The Border-Gavaskar Trophy was another disappointing Test series for India where despite the big win in Perth the team failed to win the series and retain the trophy, in the process ending their 10-year dominance over Australia in the longest format of the game.

A few eye-catching decisions were taken during the series which also included Rohit Sharma dropping himself out of the New Year’s Test in Sydney. While some experts found it to be a good decision from Rohit considering his poor form with the bat former Indian wicketkeeper Saba Karim did not agree with it and said that the team management gave him a responsibility which he should have fulfilled till the end of the series.

“I don't consider Rohit Sharma's decision right. The selectors, the BCCI, and the team management had given you a responsibility. So you have to take that responsibility till the end. Every player's sporting career has such phases where you need to fight," Saba Karim said on a YouTube Channel called SportsNext.

“You have to show that your form might not be that good but you are still ready to work hard, and that he has been given captaincy because he is an excellent batter and it's his duty to keep himself at the front on the ground when his team is not performing that well and fight for them. I was extremely surprised when Rohit took this decision," Karim added.

Speaking of India’s schedule for 2025 they will be playing against England in five T20Is and three ODIs at home later this month ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy. Though the Indian team could not maintain their success in red-ball cricket towards the end they will hope that they find some success in limited overs cricket.
