Sachin Tendulkar and Muthiah Muralidaran's epic battle in charity game makes fans nostalgic
Sachin Tendulkar and Muthiah Muralidaran participated in the One World One Family Cup game.
Legendary India batter Sachin Tendulkar and veteran Sri Lankan off-spinner Muthiah Muralidaran turned the clock back in time as the duo faced off after 9 and a half years. Notably, the former international cricketers were participating in the One World One Family Cup Charity Match on Thursday, January 18 at the Sai Krishnan Cricket Stadium in Sathya Sai Grama, Bengaluru.
Tendulkar was opening the innings for One World alongside Naman Ojha as the duo gave a good start to their side chasing a target of 181 for victory. The most prolific batter in the history of international cricket was up against the highest wicket-taker in cricket history in the 8th over as the crowd licked their lips to watch the epic encounter.
It was Muralidaran who won the battle by dismissing Tendulkar on the very first ball. The right-handed batter, who loved to take on the spinners in his playing days, came down the track to smack the Sri Lankan spinner over his head. However, Tendulkar failed to get the timing right and was caught at long-on by Mohammed Kaif.

As a result, he had to return to the pavilion after scoring 27 (15) as Muralidaran celebrated his wicket with a wide smile. Notably, the off-spinner also dismissed him the last time the duo faced off in 2014 during the MCC VS ROW game at the Lord’s. On that occasion, the off-spinner dismantled Tendulkar’s stumps as he failed to play a late cut.
Tendulkar also picked a wicket in the first innings
Meanwhile, Tendulkar also grabbed a wicket during the One World One Family Cup Charity Match organized by the Sri Madhusudan Sai Global Humanitarian Mission to raise awareness regarding child healthcare. The wrist-spinner dismissed a well-set Darren Maddy on 51 (41) getting him out lbw in his second over.
Courtesy of Maddy’s innings, One Family which was captained by Yuvraj Singh finished with the score of 180/6 in their allotted 20 overs. In reply, One World chased down the target in 19.5 overs with Alviro Petersen top-scoring with 74 (50).
