The 2024-25 edition of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy was a blend of adrenaline-charged events - both on and off the field. One such encounter occurred on the fifth and final Test of the series, at the Sydney Cricket Ground. The incident involved ace right-arm speedster and eventual Player of the Series Jasprit Bumrah and the 19-year-old Sam Konstas.
The duo was engaged in the heated exchange towards the fag end of the final Test's opening day. For the unversed, left-handed Usman Khawaja stopped Bumrah when the pacer was on his way to bowl the penultimate delivery of the day.
Seeing a displeased Bumrah from the non-striker's end, Konstas intervened and decided to have a go at the bowler. The standby skipper did not hold back, as the two were engaged in an intense exchange of gestures. On the very next delivery, Khawaja perished after eding Bumrah to KL Rahul in the slips. Bumrah, and more so his teammates, charged across to Konstas in quite an aggressive manner for celebrating their success.

Credit to Bumrah; he got the wicket: Sam Konstas
In a recent discussion, Konstas admitted that it was his "fault". "Oh, I didn't get too fazed. Unfortunately, Uzi (Khawaja) got out. He was trying to buy some time a little bit. It was probably my fault, but it happens. It's cricket. Credit to Bumrah. He got the wicket, but obviously great performance from the team,” Konstas told Triple M Cricket after the series win.
The six-wicket win in Sydney propelled Australia to reclaim the Border-Gavaskar Trophy title after a decade as they won the series by a 3-1 margin. As for India, it meant that any hope of qualifying for their third World Test Championship final in a row was crushed to dust. It was a particularly disappointing tour for India, especially considering they had obtained a lead after winning the series opener in Perth.
