Former India skipper Kapil Dev recently came forward to laud star India batters Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma for their invaluable contributions to the Indian cricket team. Branding both batters as huge servants of Indian cricket, Kapil Dev described the duo as irreplaceable.
It is worth noting that both Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma retired from T20Is after winning the T20 World Cup for India recently. The Men in Blue went unbeaten throughout the tournament and defeated South Africa in the summit clash to win it all.
Speaking of their impact in Indian cricket, Kapil Dev compared Kohli and Rohit to Sachin Tendulkar and MS Dhoni, both of whom are giant figures in world cricket.
“No one can take Virat and Rohit’s place in the Indian team in any format. They have been a huge servant of Indian cricket, and it was a happy farewell for them. The stature that Virat has made of himself in all formats, he will surely be missed in T20Is. Both are the same as Sachin Tendulkar and MS Dhoni. They are irreplaceable,” Kapil Dev said on the sidelines of the Trinity Golf Championship League second edition curtain-raiser event.

I hope they do better than what we have done: Kapil Dev
Furthermore, Kapil Dev came forward to wish the Indian team luck as the BCCI recently announced former batter Gautam Gambhir will be India’s new head coach from the side’s upcoming white-ball tour to Sri Lanka.
"If Gautam Gambhir is taking up that post (of head coach of the Indian cricket team), I wish good luck to him and the team. I hope they do better than what we have done previously. I want to wish the Indian players all the best," Kapil Dev said.
It is worth noting that India will tour Sri Lanka for a three-game ODI and three-game T20I series, and Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are expected to miss the series as they will be given a rest from their duties.
