Sanju Samson doubtful for Rajasthan Royals' clash against Lucknow Super Giants on April 19
Samson suffered pain in his abdominal area in the match against Delhi Capitals.
Rajasthan Royals (RR) skipper Sanju Samson is doubtful for the team’s upcoming fixture against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on Saturday, April 19. The wicketkeeper is currently awaiting scan results after sustaining an injury during the recent match against Delhi Capitals (DC).
The right-handed batter retired hurt on 31 off 19 balls with a suspected side strain during RR’s last fixture on Wednesday. The RR skipper appeared to be in discomfort after attempting to cut a delivery from Vipraj Nigam prompting the physio to examine the left side of his rib. Although he faced the next delivery, he soon retired hurt. RR eventually went on to lose the match in a dramatic Super Over.
“Sanju experienced a bit of pain in the abdominal area. So, we have gone for scans. He has done some scans today so we are waiting for the results of those scans. And then once we get a bit more clarity around the scans and the severity of [the injury] we’ll take a decision going forward and we’ll see what happens,” said head coach Rahul Dravid on Friday as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.

The 30-year-old cricketer was initially used as an Impact Player for the first three matches of RR before returning to action after being cleared by the Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. He had undergone finger surgery last month, and during his absence Dhruv Jurel took over the wicketkeeping duties for RR.
In Samson’s absence, Riyan Parag assumed the captaincy. Under Parag’s leadership, RR lost their first two fixtures against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), but secured victory against Chennai Super Kings (CSK). However, following two wins, RR suffered three consecutive losses and currently find themselves in eighth place on the points table.
