Sarfaraz Khan has finally been rewarded for his magnanimous run in the domestic circuit, representing Mumbai. The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) named their squad for the upcoming Buchi Babu Tournament, and Sarfaraz was announced as the captain. The batter is among the biggest names in the Mumbai squad, and also happens to be the only player from the side to have played international cricket.

In the absence of senior pro Ajinkya Rahane and Shams Mulani, the youngster has been given the leadership mantle. Rahane led Mumbai to their record 42nd Ranji Trophy title in 2023-24 season, while Mulani was his deputy. While the senior most is busy playing for Leicestershire in One Day Limited Over Tournament, Mulani is at Bengaluru's National Cricket Academy (NCA).

For the unversed, Khan made his Test debut during the home series against England, earlier this year. In his much-awaited maiden outing, the batter showed his class, scoring three half-centuries in as many matches. The youngster amassed 200 runs during the series at a staggering average of 50.00. His first-class records, though, are much more astonishing.

In 71 innings, Sarfaraz has scored an 4,112 runs at a mind-boggling average of 68.53. He has a total of 14 half-centuries and as many hundreds and a triple hundred (301*) as well, signifying his ability to convert starts into big knocks.

MCA's Senior Selection Committee, chaired by Sanjay Patil, and other members Ravi Thaker, Jeetendra Thackeray, Kiran Powar, and Vikrant Yeligeti picked the 17-member squad for their first tournament of the upcoming domestic season Notably, Sarfaraz's brother and all-rounder Musheer Khan, is also included in the squad for the Buchi Babu Tournament.
