Former Indian cricketer, Abhinav Mukund, believes that Sarfaraz Khan deserves the call-up after what he has done in first-class matches over the past three years.

Sarfaraz Khan has been one of the most consistent performers in domestic cricket this season, but he's still away from being selected in the Test squad for Team India. He has scored over 2400 runs in the last three editions of the Ranji trophy and is certainly knocking on the door of the Indian Test team. People believed he would get the call-up for the four-match Test series against Australia however, that wasn’t the case to be.

In the current edition of the Ranji trophy, the Mumbai batter has scored 556 runs in six innings at an incredible average of 92.67. He finished as the top run-getter for Mumbai in the last edition after scoring 982 runs in nine innings at a staggering average of 122.75.

Abhinav Mukund, the domestic cricket icon shed some light on what Sarfaraz Khan has done was more than enough to deserve a call-up to the Indian Test team. While talking to the News18 CricketNext, the 33-year-old stated, “I think Sarfaraz should be there. Let’s keep that point straight. I think Sarfaraz has done enough to warrant a place in the Indian team. But, if you look at Ranji performances not being rewarded in this case, yes."

"But if you look at Jaydev Unadkat, they drafted him into the team after the sensational Ranji trophy in the last two or three years," he added further.

Mukund then talked about the other inclusions in the Indian Test squad for the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy. He spoke about Suryakumar Yadav whose white-ball exploits have got him a place in the Test squad for the upcoming series.

The Madras-born cricketer continued, “So, I think it’s just a case of the vacancies and the positions available. They’ve gone with a call that they feel is right for the first two tests by bringing in Suryakumar Yadav. I may or may not agree with that, but the thing is, there needs to be an opening for you to get in."

Finally Mukund concluded by saying, "You can score thousands of runs, but if someone else is doing really well there then it’s very difficult for you to, there should be a vacancy for you to get a job, right? Yeah. It’s just like that."
