Indian cricketer Sarfaraz Khan celebrated Mumbai's historic Irani Trophy victory with his father and injured brother, Musheer Khan. The win, which came after a 27-year drought for the domestic cricket powerhouse, was made all the more special by Sarfaraz's match-winning double-century.
Musheer, Sarfaraz's younger brother, was sidelined from the tournament due to a serious car accident. While traveling with their father, Naushad Khan, from Azamgarh to Lucknow, their vehicle met with a tragic mishap, flipping several times on the road. Musheer sustained a neck fracture, while his father escaped with minor injuries.
Meanwhile, Sarfaraz's magnificent innings of 222 not out, including 25 boundaries and four sixes, was the key to Mumbai's dominance in the match. In the post-match interview, Sarfaraz dedicated his performance to his recovering brother.
"This trophy is the team's, but I promised at home that I would make a hundred for Musheer. This one is for him," Sarfaraz told the broadcaster during the post-match interview.
I try to follow the process: Sarfaraz Khan
The right-hand batter even mentioned following the process and working hard. He even pointed out taking guidance from senior players and working on weaknesses to become a better cricketer.
"I try to follow the process and whatever I have done with my Abbu. If you travel all around India, you are used to how the wickets play. One has to work all around at their game, look at how the seniors are doing, and work on their weaknesses," Sarfaraz added.
While the match officially ended in a draw, Mumbai clinched the trophy based on their first-innings lead. The Mumbai Cricket Association awarded the team INR 1 crore each for the players and the support staff for their historic Irani Cup victory along with BCCI's prize money of ₹50 lakh
