Scott Boland opens up on prospect of making Virat Kohli his 'bunny'

Scott Boland has said that he is waiting to bowl to Indian batting stalwart Virat Kohli once again during the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia.

India got the better of Australia in the last two Test series played Down Under. In 2018-19, Kohli led India to their first-ever Test win on Australian soil. In 2020-21, the Delhi batter played the first Test, where India were infamously shot out for 36 in their second innings before suffering a 10-wicket defeat. Kohli left the tour to attend the birth of his first child before the tourists did the unthinkable as they came back to beat the Aussies 2-1, even after being plagued by several injuries.

Kohli faced Boland in the World Test Championship final between India and Australia at The Oval. The former was dismissed by Boland in both innings for 14 and 49. Pat Cummins and Co. went on to win the encounter by 209 runs. Boland opined that Australia will be the favourites to topple India in the Border-Gavakar Trophy this time.

"I think we’ve got real class bowling attack, some of the best players in the world as they do but I think home conditions we can get a jump in,” said Boland in a video shared by journalist Daniel Cherny on X (formerly Twitter).

However, the right-arm seamer refrained from addressing Kohli as his "bunny" but expressed his willingness to have a bowl at him later this year in Australia. “I wouldn’t say that. Nice wicket to get, hopefully I have a chance to have a crack at him again," Boland mentioned.

India have managed to hold onto the Border-Gavaskar Trophy since their 2-1 win at home in 2017. Australia's last win against India came in 2014-15 on their home soil. India's Test team is going through a transition phase as the selectors have started looking beyond veterans like Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara. However, youngsters like Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sarfaraz Khan have stepped up and would be eager to help the Asian giants retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy once again.
