‘I think they will win’ - Shafali Verma predicts Team India's Asia Cup 2023 chances
"The team looks very strong. All those who were missing owing to injuries are making a comeback," Shafali Verma said.
The Asia Cup 2023 is right around the corner. The showpiece event is all set to begin on August 30, with Pakistan and Sri Lanka co-hosting the continental tournament. With the games rapidly approaching, Rohit Sharma-led India have been branded as clear favourites to bring the trophy home.
Boasting some of the best players in world cricket, India will be expected to be on top of their game in the tournament, and a title win could do their confidence a world of good ahead of the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023.
With the competition approaching, star India Women’s cricketer Shafali Verma came forward to give her predictions for the Asia Cup 2023. Verma opined that India is looking very strong going into the tournament and that they will come out victorious.
"The team looks very strong. All those who were missing owing to injuries are making a comeback. So, I think Team India has become very strong. So, I think they will win," Shafali Verma was quoted as saying by NDTV.
I can't say about Harmanpreet Kaur: Verma
Furthermore, Shafali Verma also talked about the ongoing controversy between Indian skipper Harmanpreet Kaur and her outrage against the umpires in the recently held game against Bangladesh.
Verma opined that while she cannot talk about Harmanpreet Kaur, she stated that as a team, every player wants to do the right thing for the squad, and despite the ups and downs, the value of hard work is never diminished.
"I can't say about Harmanpreet Kaur....but as a team, we are always just thinking of doing well for the Indian team, for our country. Sometimes we will go up or down. But we can work hard anytime, so we just believe in working hard. That is what we are thinking," Shafali Verma said.
It is worth noting that Harmanpreet Kaur was punished with a hefty fine for her behaviour against the umpires after she was dismissed in the Dhaka ODI. Kaur received four demerit points and was also slapped with match fee fines.
