Pakistan fast bowler Shaheen Afridi has risen through the ranks ever since his debut in 2018 and become one of the most potent seamers in the world. The 23-year-old is currently wreaking havoc in the ongoing Asia Cup 2023 having picked up seven wickets in three matches so far. Notably, it will be the first time that the Pakistan pace sensation will be bowling in India. Hence, the Khyber Agency-born cricketer has begun his preparations for the mega event. Recently, Afridi revealed that he’s had discussions with foreign players who’ve played in the IPL regarding the pitches in India.

“All the foreign players who have played in the IPL, we had discussions with them. Spinners will get more help, maybe. We will hit good lengths. Our team performance is going well as the number one (ODI) team. We have prepared well,” Afridi was quoted as saying by HindustanTimes.

In the previous edition of the ODI World Cup in 2019, Afridi picked up 16 wickets from five matches at an average of 14.62 and an economy of 4.96. He will be eager for another stupendous show in the upcoming edition of the cricketing extravaganza.

Further speaking about his recent spell of 4/35 vs India in the group stage match of Asia Cup 2023, Afridi said that it wasn’t his best spell so far.

I can’t say this (4/35) has been my best spell so far: Shaheen Afridi

“Every match against India is special and people watch it a lot. I used to wait for this match as a fan before I played under-16 cricket. I can’t say this (4/35) has been my best spell so far. This is just the start and there will be many more, so the best is yet to come,” he added.

Afridi has scalped 30 wickets since 2022 from 14 ODIs at an average of 19 and an economy of five. He will look to once again trouble the Indian top order in the Super 4 fixture against India in the Asia Cup 2023 on Sunday, September 10 in Colombo.
