Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto credited Shakib Al Hasan for not losing focus in the first Test against Pakistan at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. The all-rounder was recently accused in a murder case after which, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) also received an official notice to remove the cricketer from the national team. His association with the Awami League Party invited immense criticism, but Shakib remained focused and played an important part in Bangladesh’s 10-wicket win over Pakistan.
In the game's second innings, when Bangladesh needed some quick wickets to wrap up the game, Shakib proved effective, picking up three wickets. Mehindy Hasan Miraz picked up four as Pakistan were bundled for 146 runs. Bangladesh were asked to chase only 30 runs and they did it in 6.3 overs.

After the game, Shanto lauded Shakib for his incredible performance and also for sharing inputs while bowling. He also expects the veteran all-rounder to perform even better in the next game, which is slated to begin on August 30.
“He is someone who is dedicated. He does whatever is needed for the team to win. He knows very well how to focus on cricket by keeping his personal life aside. He knows how to help the team and juniors. Despite being in such a situation, he deserves credit for performing the way he did and giving his inputs, especially in bowling. We expect him to perform even better in the next game,” Shanto said in the post-match presentation ceremony.

Bangladesh recently saw tremendous political tension, which led to the fall of the government. Hundreds of people lost their lives in protest and talking about that, Shanto hoped that the win would bring back the smiles on everyone’s face.
“Last one month has been tough. Problems are still there, but in Bangladesh, we all support each other. I hope this win will bring them a smile on their faces. That’s why we are very happy and we will look to continue like this even in the next game,” Shanto added.
