Former West Indies fast bowler Andy Roberts suggested that India star pacer Mohammed Shami should play the remainder of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia. The former two-time world champion praised the Indian paceman highly. Shami is reported to make his way into the Indian side after the third Test at the Gabba.

The Indian pace attack has been the talk of the town, especially after their recent performances. Though it is Jasprit Bumrah who is regarded as the best in the world right now, a bowler the Indians have missed is Mohammed Shami who will be making a comeback into the squad after a long time due to his injury. This could be another plus point for the Indians who will be looking to bounce back in the series after the Adelaide Test.

There have been plenty of experts who have been talking about the return of Shami to the Indian team. The last game Shami played in international cricket was the 2023 World Cup final against Australia. He would be keen to prove himself in the last two Tests of the Border-Gavaskar series. There are several experts who want Shami back in the squad and this also includes Roberts.

“Shami has been India's best bowler for a while, He may not get the amount of wickets Jasprit Bumrah gets, but he's the full package and is more consistent than the rest. Shami swings the ball, Shami seams the ball, and Shami's control is as good as Bumrah's. Shami should play. Mohd Siraj is nowhere near Shami," said Roberts as quoted by The Times Of India.

Shami’s record against Australia

Shami's record against the Aussies is pretty good and it probably explains why Roberts wants him to play. The Bengal pacer has taken 44 wickets in 12 Test matches against them at an average of 32.09. It is safe to say that he will be a vital asset for India in the remaining matches of the series.
