Shammi Silva has been elected as Sri Lanka Cricket President for the fourth consecutive time. Silva and his team won the elections without any contest, as there was no opposition. They will be in power for two years from the period 2025-27. For the third time in a row, Shammi has shown his dominance by not facing any contest.

In other major posts, Jayantha Dharmadasa and Ravin Wickramaratne have retained their Vice-President position. Likewise, Sujeewa Godaliyadda will continue to be the treasurer, while Chryshantha Kapuwatte will be the Assistant Secretary and Lasantha Wickremasinghe will be the Assistant Treasurer to Sujeewa. Only one member from the previous team will not feature in the new team.

Mohan De Silva, who resigned as the Secretary in November 2023, will not continue in the team. Bandula Dissanayake will be his replacement, who happens to be the only new face in the committee. In Mohan's absence, Kapuwatte was acting as the Secretary. The formation of a new team has been made possible due to a major constitutional amendment.

Shammi Silva's dominance as the SLC President

Recently, SLC's constitution was amended, allowing officials to hold posts for four consecutive terms of two years. It was amended as Silva's third term was nearing its end. By 2027, when Silva's new term ends, he will have completed eight years as the President of SLC.

One of the key outcomes of the change in rules was the reduction in the number of voting body. Initially consisting of 147 members, the body was reduced to a total of just 60 members. Shammi's election was the first to happen under the new rules.

The latest elections have signified the dominance of Shammi and Co. in Sri Lankan Cricket. Silva's run as the SLC President started for the first time in 2017 and lasted till 2019. Since then, he has won all terms as the President. It has also raised concerns in some quarters about the concentration of power in the SLC.
