Shane Watson and his wife, Lee Furlong, ran a sporting company together since the former retired from international cricket. The company that is named 'T20 Stars' will be shutting shop soon as the Australian legend is finding it difficult to give time to the business.
T20 Stars was launched in 2021 and did promising business in its early days. However, the numbers have dwindled in recent times, and the couple has finally taken the tough decision of closing the company.
T20 Stars specialised in selling cricket equipment directly to customers. While speaking to news.com.au, the 42-year-old Watson said that the decision to close the company, only after two years of existence, has been taken independently by him and his wife and has nothing to do with external factors.
“It was wholly and solely mine and Lee’s choice to wind down T20 Stars," Watson told news.com.au in a recent interview.
“Obviously it was an incredible learning experience for me, and something that I obviously loved, being able to just come up with the idea and then put all the pieces together to launch (it) and get it out to the world, especially the Australian market.”
Watson has had a busy schedule even after retiring as a player. He was a part of the Delhi Capitals' coaching staff for the 2023 edition of the Indian Premier League. He will be seen in the upcoming American Major League Cricket tournament as he has been roped in as the head coach of the San Francisco Unicorns franchise. Two of his former Australian teammates, Aaron Finch and Marcus Stoinis, will be playing for the team. The former all-rounder said that it was becoming difficult for him to make time for his business due to his coaching commitments.
“There were solid sales through the couple of years that T20 Stars was up and running, but it ended up getting to a stage over the last six months, that I just had to pick and choose where my time was spent,” he said.
