Star India all-rounder Shardul Thakur, who is representing Mumbai in the Irani Cup clash against the Rest of India, has been hospitalised due to a high fever. Thakur had been battling fever in Lucknow during the clash. However, after spending some time on the field, his condition deteriorated.
It is worth noting that Thakur scored 36 runs in 59 deliveries, helping his side cross the 500-run mark in the first innings of the clash. He was dismissed by Saransh Jain in the final over of the day.
According to reports, Thakur is set to spend the night at the hospital, and the doctors will soon be making the call whether he will continue to play in the game or not.
“He was not feeling well for the entire day and was running on high fever, which was the main reason he came out to bat late. He was feeling weak and he slept in the dressing room after taking medicine. But he wanted to bat despite feeling low. We have got his blood test done for malaria and dengue. We are waiting for the results. Till then, he will spend the night in hospital,” a source was quoted as saying by Sportskeeda.
Interestingly, the Irani Cup clash against the Rest of India was Thakur’s return to competitive cricket after he underwent foot surgery on June 12, 2024. He did compete in the KSCA Invitational tournament as he geared up for the Irani Cup.
Mumbai post 537 runs in the first innings against ROI
Speaking of the ongoing Irani Cup clash between Mumbai and the Rest of India, Mumbai managed to put in an excellent showing, batting first. On day 1, Ajinkya Rahane dominated and scored 97 runs in 234 deliveries. Furthermore, Sarfaraz Khan was the star of day 2.
The star batter managed to score a double century and went unbeaten throughout the first innings. Ending his knock on a score of 222* runs in 286 deliveries, Sarfaraz Khan helped Mumbai post a score of 537 runs in the first innings of the game.
