Prithvi Shaw, the talented Indian batter, is set to make a return to Northamptonshire next summer. This news comes after Shaw's scintillating performance earlier this month, during which he scored a remarkable 244 off 153 balls against Somerset.
Although his stay was unfortunately curtailed by a knee injury, Shaw's dedication to the club has been unwavering, prompting his signing for the second half of the upcoming season. Having showcased his prowess by scoring 429 runs in just four innings, including his record-breaking feat, Shaw's return to Northamptonshire is highly anticipated.
"I'm so excited to be heading back to Northamptonshire next summer. Even though it was over quickly I really enjoyed my time there, It's a great club to be a part of and I felt so welcome by everyone immediately. I can't wait to get back over," Shaw said as quoted by ESPN Cricinfo.
Despite attracting interest from various other counties, Shaw's decision to rejoin Northamptonshire showcases his commitment to the team's success. He stated,
"My goal is always to help win games for the team and it was so disappointing to get injured and have to leave early this time."
Shaw's return is scheduled for June 2024, and he is set to stay with Northamptonshire until the end of the season. This extended duration is a testament to the impact he made during his short stay earlier.
Northamptonshire's Chief Executive, Ray Payne, expressed delight over securing Shaw's return, stating, "To have secured him again for next year already and for so much of the season is really pleasing." John Sadler, Northants' Head Coach, echoed the sentiment, emphasizing Shaw's phenomenal talent and his contribution to the team. Sadler said,
"Prithvi is a phenomenal talent and what he delivered for us in such a short space of time was incredible. He was utterly disappointed not to stay longer due to his injury as he wanted to play some red-ball cricket, so the chance for him to do this next year is really exciting for us all."
