Shivam Dube is too irresistible as an all-round talent to not take to the T20 World Cup 2024: Adam Gilchrist
"He's taken on spin bowling, which we've known and witnessed for a while. But he's taking on the quick bowlers," Adam Gilchrist said.
Adam Gilchrist has backed Shivam Dube to be the dark horse as India look to zero in on their 15-man squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024 in the West Indies and the USA.
Dube has been playing some excellent cricket since he moved to Chennai Super Kings (CSK) ahead of the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). He has been striking at 157.20 since joining the Men in Yellow. In IPL 2024, Dube is the highest run-getter for Chennai, having scored 245 runs in seven games at an average of 49 and a strike rate of 157.05. He has become one of the mainstays of the CSK line-up and is in the running for a spot in the Indian squad for the T20 World Cup in June.
Former Australian opener Gilchrist said that Dube was always a good hitter of spin-bowling but he has improved his game immensely against the pacers. The cricketer-turned-commentator named the 30-year-old as his dark horse pick in India's World Cup squad.
"Shivam Dube, I think his form is irresistible. He's taken on spin-bowling, which we've known and witnessed for a while. But he's taking on the quick bowlers. He seems to be confident in his shot selection all around the ground," Gilchrist said in an interview with Cricbuzz.

The former wicketkeeper-batter urged the Indian team management to ask Dube to bowl more in the nets as he could be an impactful all-rounder for the Men in Blue at the marquee event.
"If they get the message to him, to make sure he is at least bowling a lot in the nets, he is too irresistible as a talent to not take to the World Cup," Gilchrist noted.

Dube has represented India in 21 T20Is and a solitary ODI. In 14 T20I innings, Dube has scored 276 runs at an average of 39.43 and a strike rate of 145.26. With Hardik Pandya struggling to play to his full potential, the Mumbai all-rounder could be a useful option for Rohit Sharma and Co. at the World Cup.
