Shivam Dube's all-round prowess was on full display in India's victory against Afghanistan in the first T20I earning him praise from cricket expert Aakash Chopra.

Dube's remarkable performance, contributing with both ball and the bat, has sparked discussions about his potential inclusion in India's T20 World Cup squad.

Chopra, while analysing Dube's impact on his YouTube channel, remarked,

"Shivam Ati Sundaram. He picked up a wicket, bowled only two overs, and then made 60 runs off 40 balls as well with a strike rate of 150. Shivam Dube has staked a claim once again. This is the World Cup year and he bats at a good position for CSK in the IPL and does very well."

Dube's figures of 1/9 in two overs contributed to restricting Afghanistan to 158/5, setting the stage for India's successful chase. The left-hander then showcased his prowess with the bat, scoring an unbeaten 60 off 40 deliveries, steering India to victory with six wickets and 15 deliveries to spare.

Chopra lauded Dube for seizing the opportunity and emphasised the significance of his potential contribution to India's T20 World Cup aspirations.

"I was feeling that Dube was not being treated properly. We had spoken earlier that you made him sit out in the five matches against Australia and dropped him against South Africa, but now when he got a chance, he has not only grabbed it but made the most of it," said Chopra.

Dube's journey has been marked by challenges, having been part of India's squad for the T20I series against Australia post the 2023 ODI World Cup but not getting a game. After being left out for the South Africa tour, Dube made a strong comeback for the ongoing series against Afghanistan, seizing the opportunity with both hands. Chopra was particularly impressed with Dube's batting maturity and ability to close the game.

"He had already picked up a wicket with the ball but the way he batted, he played with great maturity. He finished the match. I think that's an important one when you close out the match," Chopra said.

If Hardik Pandya is unfit or unavailable for any reason, he can do the job: Chopra

Chopra further stated that Dube should be given opportunities as he can bowl as well. He mentioned that the all-rounder can do the job if Hardik Pandya is unfit or unavailable for any reason.

"If Hardik Pandya is unfit or unavailable for any reason, he can do the job. Player of the Match performance was Shivam Dube. The standout performer was Shivam Dube," Chopra concluded.

As the T20 World Cup draws near, all eyes are on Dube, who has positioned himself as a potent backup for Hardik Pandya, showcasing his mettle on the international stage with a stellar performance against Afghanistan. The cricketing fraternity eagerly awaits his stint with the Chennai Super Kings in the IPL 2024, a potential gateway to solidifying his claim for a spot in India's T20 World Cup squad.
