Mumbai Indians (MI) opener Rohit Sharma looked at his vintage best as he gave his side an electrifying start during Match 21 of the Indian Premier League 2024 (IPL 2024) against Delhi Capitals (DC). After DC captain Rishabh Pant invited MI to bat first on a belter of a track at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, Rohit accepted the opportunity with both hands as he took on DC bowlers right from the word go.
The 36-year-old got his innings going with back-to-back boundaries in the second over against Ishant Sharma and put his wide array of strokes on display as he sent the ball to all corners of the park. Rohit’s innings was studded with six fours and three sixes, however, the highlight of his innings was his trademark pull shot.

The right-handed batter fulfilled the wish of 20 thousand young fans who had gathered to watch him play as he launched Jhye Richardson for a maximum with his trademark pull shot on the second ball of the fourth over. He further flicked him for a maximum on the very next delivery in the same direction.

Mumbai registered their first win of the season
Rohit was eventually dismissed for 49 (27) as he put on an 80-run stand for the first wicket with Ishan Kishan. Apart from him, Ishan Kishan (42 off 23), Hardik Pandya (39 off 33), Tim David (45* off 21) and Romario Shepherd (39* off 10) also made valuable contributions as MI posted a mammoth total of 234/5 in 20 overs.

Axar Patel was the pick of the bowlers from DC with figures of 2/35 in four overs. In reply, DC got off to a slow start with opener David Warner (10 off 8) getting dismissed cheaply. Prithvi Shaw (66 off 40) and Tristan Stubbs tried their best to keep their team in the game but eventually fell short of the target finishing on 205/8 in their allotted 20 overs.
