India and Bangladesh are locking horns in Match 17 of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 on Thursday, October 19 at Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Pune. After opting to bat first, Bangladesh posted 256/8 in their allotted 50 overs as Litton Das top-scored with his knock of 66 (82). In reply, India got off to a phenomenal start as openers Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill added 88 runs for the first wicket off 76 balls.

Sharma continued from where he left off against Pakistan and played another brilliant knock of 48 off 40 balls smashing seven fours and two sixes in his innings. The Indian skipper once again brought the crowd to the edge of their seats with his sumptuous shots.

On the third ball of the 13th over bowled by Hasan Mahmud, Sharma played a magnificent hook shot as he launched the ball way back over the fine-leg boundary. The Indian skipper wasted no time and quickly got into the position and smacked it for a maximum.

However, on the very next ball, he pulled him towards deep square leg but found Towhid Hridoy in the deep. As a result, the Indian skipper fell two runs short of his half-century, however, he managed to climb to the top of the list of leading run scorers in the World Cup 2023. The Indian opener is now the leading run-scorer of the tournament with 265 runs to his name from four innings at an average of 66.25 and a strike rate of 137.30 with one hundred and one fifty to his name.

Following his dismissal, Virat Kohli walked in at number three and notched up his 48th ODI hundred to help India chase down the target in 41.3 overs. The star batter remained unbeaten on 103* off 97 balls as he guided India to a seven-wicket win.
