South Africa are one of the two teams that are undefeated in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024. However, unlike India, the other unbeaten team, the Proteas haven’t dominated any of the opponents. They picked up close victories, which could have gone the other way but the team proved lucky from time to time. They defeated USA by 18 runs, England by seven runs and West Indies by three wickets in the Super Eights and will be facing Afghanistan in the semis.

Ahead of that, skipper Aiden Markram acknowledged that their batters haven’t been at their best in the tournament. He mentioned that the conditions weren’t easy in the competition but assured that the team is sticking together with the hope of improved performance in the remainder of the tournament.

“From a batting point of view, we’ve shown good signs but not been at our best, sometimes due to conditions being quite tough and other times just giving it away. The opportunity lies in the fact that we haven’t put a complete game of cricket together yet and we have trust in the fact that if we are able to do so it puts us in a really good position,” Markram was quoted as saying by Sowetan Live.

“The environment you are able to create in the changeroom, along with experience, plays a big role in how things look on the field. Guys have a lot of trust in each other and are willing to put everything on the line for each other. What you see from an actions perspective on the field, along with the effort, has helped to put us in a really nice position,” the 29-year-old added.

South Africa qualified for the semi-finals of the ODI World Cup 2023 but lost to Australia at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. The opening hour of that match put South Africa on the backfoot and the Proteas are ready to learn from their past mistakes and work with the hope of making it to the finals of the T20 World Cup final for the first time in history.
