Star Indian batter Shreyas Iyer is all set to make an appearance in the Ranji Trophy. The 29-year-old, who was excluded from India’s squad for the upcoming series against Afghanistan, will be turning up for Mumbai against Andhra at the Bandra-Kurla Complex ground from January 12.
There were reports that stated that Iyer showed his willingness to play for Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy after his subpar performances in the recently concluded two-game Test series against South Africa.
He was out for scores of 31 and 6 (Centurion) and 0 and 4* (Cape Town) against South Africa, and his outing for Mumbai could prove to be highly beneficial with the five-Test series against England on the horizon.
India are slated to take on England starting January 25. After drawing the crucial series against the Proteas, the hosts will hope for a good performance against England and maintain their position in the WTC standings.
Iyer will be coming into the Mumbai squad as a replacement for Sarfaraz Khan, who went to Ahmedabad to represent India A alongside Tushar Deshpande as the side gears up to take on England Lions (A team).
Mumbai aim to keep winning run alive
Mumbai will be coming into their clash against Andhra after a brilliant win in their previous clash. They took on Bihar in their previous game and dominated the proceedings, winning the game by an innings and 51 runs. The team will be coming into the clash against Andhra brimming with confidence and Iyer’s inclusion could come as a big boost for Mumbai in the tournament.
Mumbai squad: Ajinkya Rahane (Captain), Shreyas Iyer, Jay Bista, Bhupen Lalwani, Amogh Bhatkal, Suved Parkar, Prasad Pawar (WK), Hardik Tamore (WK), Shams Mulani, Tanush Kotian, Atharva Ankolekar, Mohit Awasthi, Dhaval Kulkarni, Roystan Dias, Sylvester Dsouza.
