Robin Uthappa said that Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal remind him of the iconic opening duo of Sourav Ganguly and Sachin Tendulkar. Sourav-Sachin IS the most successful opening pair in ODI cricket history. They amassed 6609 runs at the top of the order from 136 innings at an average of 49.32 with 21 century partnerships and 23 half-century stands.
Shubman and Yashasvi are yet to open in ODIs as the latter has only played in Tests and T20Is for the Asian giants. However, the two talented cricketers have already registered two half-century and as many century stands in 10 innings in the shortest format of the game.

Uthappa, who played alongside Sourav and Sachin in international cricket, noted that Shubman and Yashasvi complement each other like the two former captains of Indian cricket.
“I do see them, when I look at them they remind me of Sourav Ganguly and Sachin Tendulkar going out together, where their games kind of complimented each other. Their strategies complimented each other, that’s what I see when I see these two go out to bat together,” said Uthappa on Sony Sports Network.
Yashasvi will seal his spot in ODIs too: Uthappa
Yashasvi has played nine Tests and 23 T20Is so far and scored 1,028 and 723 runs, respectively. He is averaging 68.53 in Tests and 36.15 in T20Is. The Mumbai batter has four centuries and nine half-centuries across the two formats. Uthappa backed Yashasvi to seal his spot in the ODI team when he gets an opportunity and explained why he will find it easier to score his runs in the format.

“I honestly feel when he (Jaiswal) gets that opportunity in ODI cricket, he will seal that spot so quickly because after Test cricket and T20I cricket, ODI cricket is going to be so much easier for him. Because he will feel like I have all the time in the world to be able to score runs,” Uthappa stated.
