Star India opener Shubman Gill, who has been battling dengue for the last few days, has been hospitalized in Chennai and will not be traveling to Delhi to be part of India's second World Cup match against Afghanistan. As per reports, Gill's platelet count has been low for some time now, and this is why, he has been advised to avoid boarding a flight.

Gill missed India's first World Cup 2023 fixture against Australia due to dengue fever and is now expected to directly be part of India's third game. The opener who was admitted to Chennai's Kaveri hospital is being attended by BCCI doctor Dr. Rizwan Khan who is travelling with the team.

"Team India batter Shubman Gill will not be travelling with the team to Delhi on 9th October 2023. The opening batter who missed the team's first fixture in the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023 against Australia in Chennai is set to miss the team's next fixture against Afghanistan in Delhi on the 11th of October. He will stay back in Chennai and will be under the supervision of the medical team," read BCCI's statement.

The prolific India opener has had a sensational run in the ODI format in 2023 and was a sure-shot selection in India's XI for World Cup fixtures before his health sidelined him for two games. In Gill's absence, Ishan Kishan paired up with Rohit Sharma at the top against Australia. However, both the openers failed terribly in India's opening World Cup fixture while chasing a meagre 200-run target.

The ship was steadied by resilient knocks produced by Virat Kohli and KL Rahul after India tumbled at 2/3 at the beginning but went on to register a six-wicket victory. India play their second fixture against Afghanistan in Delhi on September 11 and will aim to continue their winning momentum in the ODI World Cup 2023.
