After India’s incredible 99-run victory over Australia in the second ODI, Shreyas Iyer opened up and lauded Shubman Gill for his incredible performance in the 50-over format in recent times. The opener once again hit a cracking century against the Kangaroos in the second ODI in Indore and built a 200-run partnership alongside Shreyas to help India post 399 runs on board.
In a video released by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Gill praised Iyer as well, saying that the Mumbai-born cricketer changed the momentum after he came to the crease.
“The way he came in and took on the charge changed the momentum for us,” Gill said after the match.
Shreyas replied, saying that Gill looked mesmerizing from the opposite end. The opener hit 104 runs off 97 deliveries, and with that, he now has 1230 runs in this calendar year. He also prayed that Gill continue with the same momentum and keep winning matches for the national team.
“He has been sensational throughout. The way he’s been converting starts into big scores in simply outstanding. Just to watch him play those strokes was mesmerizing from the opposite end. From the bottom of my heart, I hope he keeps continuing this journey and keep winning matches for India,” Iyer said.
Meanwhile, Iyer was adjudged Player of the Match for his incredible century. When it comes to Australia, they lost two quick wickets in the form of Matthew Short and Steven Smith. David Warner later tried to bring some momentum and hit a half-century, but Ravichandran Ashwin picked up his wicket. He, along with Ravindra Jadeja, picked up three wickets each. Sean Abbott, in the end, hit 54 runs off 36 deliveries, but his efforts went in vain.
Meanwhile, Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc are expected to make their return, while Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Hardik Pandya and Kuldeep Yadav will be making their return for the Men in Blue.
