Shubman Gill has got good temperament and all the other necessary qualities to play for India for a long time: Dilip Vengsarkar
India and Australia are set to clash in ICC World Test Championship final from June 7.
Gujarat Titans (GT) opener Shubman Gill endured an outstanding 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL) season, hitting an astounding 890 runs in 17 games at an average of 59.33 and a strike rate of 157.80. This also included a stretch of three hundred in the last five games, culminating with a breathtaking 129 off 60 balls in Qualifier 2 against the Mumbai Indians. The 23-year-old has also been in outstanding form across all forms for India in 2023. In the fourth Test of the four-match series against Australia at home, he brilliantly recorded a Test century.
As the much-anticipated ICC World Test Championship final between India and Australia approaches, former India cricketer Dilip Vengsarkar has lavished accolades on Gill. Vengsarkar, affectionately known as the ‘Colonel’ and well known for his own exceptional performances in England, believes Gill possesses great skills to excel on an international level.
Vengsarkar stated his belief in the cricketer's potential. The former cricketer emphasised Gill's technical mastery, disposition, and capacity to win matches while highlighting his extraordinary qualities.
"Shubman Gill is an outstanding cricketer. We expect a lot from him. He has a very bright future for India. He is a very skilful player. He has got a good temperament and all the other necessary qualities to play for India for a long time and developed into a match-winner," Vengsarkar said, as quoted by Hindustan Times.
He emphasised that Gill's batting style meets with the game's regulations. “If you look at his batting carefully, the strokes he plays are mostly according to the manual. They are all cricketing shots, even in the T20 format. That is why he is an all-format player." he added.
The World Test Championship final is set to kick off on Wednesday, June 7, and India will be expecting Shubman Gill to produce the goods on a lively surface at The Oval in London.
