Shubman Gill named Punjab’s ‘State Icon’ to woo voters in Lok Sabha Election
Gill will help the state reach a poll percentage of more than 70% by encouraging voters to exercise their right to vote in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

On Monday, February 19, the Punjab Chief Electoral Officer's office declared that India's batting sensation Shubman Gill will be the "State Icon." Sibin C, Chief Electoral Officer, stated that Gill, a resident of Punjab and well-liked by cricket fans, particularly the younger generation, has been named the "State Icon." Sibin is hoping that Gill will help the state reach a poll percentage of more than 70% by encouraging voters to exercise their right to vote in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
The 24-year-old would engage in campaigns aimed at creating voter awareness to raise voter awareness in order to meet the goal of "Is Vaar, 70 Paar," according to Sibin. He also stated that during a meeting last week, every deputy commissioner was asked to pinpoint the regions with poor voter turnout in the last elections. Tarsem Jassar, a well-known singer from Punjab, was also named a "State Icon" earlier.

Gill has been crucial for India in ongoing series versus England
Team India, led by Rohit Sharma, are currently taking part in a five-game Test series against England. Having won the second and third Tests after falling short in the opening game in Hyderabad, India established a 2-1 lead in the series which is part of the 2023-25 World Test Championship (WTC) cycle.
Gill has been crucial for the side so far in the series. Despite failing to perform well in the first Test, he staged a stunning comeback and played a crucial century in the second game in Visakhapatnam, which India won by 106 runs. He scored 104 runs off 147 deliveries, including 11 boundaries and two maximums.

Gill was instrumental in the third Test in Rajkot as well where India registered a big win off 434 runs. After being dismissed for a nine-ball duck in the first innings, he blazed all his guns in the second innings. He, however, missed an opportunity to score a ton as he was run out by Ben Stokes while batting at 91 off 151 deliveries and it marked his second dismissal in the 90s.
