Shubman Gill, Suryakumar Yadav honoured at CEAT Cricket Rating Awards 2023

Shubman Gill got ODI Batter of the Year award while Suryakumar Yadav took home T20 Batter of the Year award.

Several stars from the cricketing fraternity were bestowed with numerous accolades during the CEAT Cricket Ratings (CCR) Awards ceremony on Monday, August 21 held in Mumbai. Indian cricketers such as Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Suryakumar Yadav and Shubman Gill got recognition for their marvellous show on the cricket pitch over the past year while New Zealand star Kane Williamson was also among the winners. Among women cricketers, Deepti Sharma and Sahafali Verma were recognised for their stupendous performances which led India to glory on several occasions.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar won the CEAT T20 Bowler of the Year award for his excellent show with the ball in 2022. The 33-year-old picked up 37 wickets from 32 games in T20Is played in 2022 at an average of 19.56 and an economy of 6.98. Meanwhile, young batting sensation Shubman Gill won the ‘ODI batter of the year’ as well as ‘International Cricketer of the year’ awards.

The 23-year-old has taken the cricketing fraternity by storm with his imperious form since the onset of 2023. Gill scored a hundred across all three formats in the first three months of the year which also included a double hundred in ODIs. Furthermore, he plundered 890 runs in 17 innings during IPL 2023 at an average of 59.33 and a strike rate of 157.80 to win the coveted Orange Cap.

The Punjab-born batter received the award from the Indian captain Rohit Sharma and thanked him and the head coach Rahul Dravid for giving him the opportunity despite Ishan Kishan scoring a double hundred while opening the innings.

Apart from Gill, Suraykumar Yadav was bestowed with the T20 Batter of the Year award for his exploits in the shortest format of the game through his breathtaking strokeplay. The 32-year-old currently holds the number-one rank in the T20I batters’ rankings having scored over 1000 runs in the format in 2022.

Kane Williamson awarded Test Cricketer of the Year

Among international players, star New Zealand batter Kane Williamson took home the ‘Test Cricketer of the Year’ award. The 33-year-old scored 852 runs from eight matches since 2022 at an average of 71 with four hundreds to his name. New Zealand Test skipper Tim Southee collected the award on Williamson’s behalf while former New Zealand captain and current England Test team’s head coach Brendon McCullum also graced the star-studded ceremony with his presence. McCullum was chosen as the 'Best Coach' of the year for revolutionising England's Test side along with the captain Ben Stokes.

Meanwhile, Indian all-rounder Deepti Sharma was chosen as 'Women's International Cricketer of the Year' while Deepti Sharma was felicitated for leading a young team to the Women's U-19 T20 World Cup triumph earlier this year.

Expressing her delight on being felicitated for her momentous achievement, Shafali Verma thanked CEAT for providing a platform for women's cricket to shine and was happy to see their achievements being celebrated.

“CEAT has provided a significant platform for women's cricket to shine. It's truly heartwarming to see our efforts being celebrated on such a grand stage. And I firmly believe that such initiatives will only provide motivation to young girls to take up the sport and empower themselves as individuals," said Verma.

Furthermore, former India cricketers Madan Lal and Karsan Ghavri were bestowed with the prestigious 'Lifetime Achievement Award'.
