Shubman Gill has been in tremendous form in all formats of the game and has slowly become an important pillar of India's batting set-up. Harbhajan Singh recently opened up on Gill's brilliance and told that the 23-year-old batter is different from the other young players because of his hunger for runs.

Gill's fame and glory came with India’s successful campaign in the 2018 U-19 Cricket World Cup, in which he won the Player of the Series award. After making his debut for team India in 2019, he quickly rose up the ladder. Now, the star Indian batter has a double century in ODIs and recently became the fifth Indian batter to score hundreds in all formats of the game.

"Shubman is very passionate about his game. His hunger makes him different from the other players because he has the belief to do something and become something,” said Harbhajan in an interaction with News24 Sports.

“The hard work his father has put in, the only way that can be repaid is if he plays for India for 15-20 years. The talent and the sort of mindset he has, whatever little I know him, he is an outstanding player. It is so pleasing to watch when he bats,” he further added.

It is pertinent to mention that Gill was born in a small town in Punjab called Fazilka. Shubman’s father was a cricket coach and moved to Mohali to help his son receive the best cricket facilities at the Punjab Cricket Association Stadium.

“I hope that he will continue to play for India for many years and one day he will lead the team as well. Then only his father will get satisfied. The satisfaction will be for both him and Punjab because he is our son," concluded the veteran spinner.

Shubman Gill's form will be crucial for Rohit Sharma-led India in the 2023 ODI World Cup

The Gujarat Titans (GT) star player has a tremendous record in limited-overs cricket, with an average of over 60 in ODIs and above 40 in T20Is. Gill’s form has not been good in the longest format of the game, as he has averaged close to 32 in the 17 Tests, but he has scored two centuries in Test matches.

Although Gill’s presence will be important for the Rohit Sharma-led side in the 2023 ICC ODI World Cup, India will nevertheless be playing the marquee event in home conditions. With home advantage, the two-time champions will surely be looking to win their first ICC title since 2013.
