SL vs NZ, 2nd T20I: Adam Milne breaks Pathum Nissanka’s bat with lethal delivery
New Zealand beat Sri Lanka by nine wickets in the second T20I on Wednesday.
On Wednesday, April 5, New Zealand pacer Adam Milne produced a thunderbolt delivery that broke Pathum Nissanka's bat during the second T20 international (T20I) against Sri Lanka, at the University Oval. After losing the first T20I, the Black Caps staged an incredible comeback to defeat Sri Lanka by nine wickets. Meanwhile, the series decider will take place on April 8, at the Queenstown Events Centre.
Milne produced a unique moment in the second T20I match when he broke Sri Lankan opener Nissanka's bat handle. The ball which skidded from a good length caught the splice of the bat and eventually broke the handle. In his fiery spell, Milne claimed a five-wicket haul.
Moreover, became only the third Kiwi to have achieved the feat in T20Is. Notably, Milne produced a 3-wicket over towards the end stages of the match. Asalanka became the first victim in the 19th over. Thereafter, Milne showed his Yorker delivery prowess two balls later. He bowled sensational toe crushers to dismiss Pramod Madushan and Dilshan Madhushanka, respectively to end Sri Lanka's innings. As a result, Milne finished with 5/26 from his four-over quota. 27New Zealand beat Sri Lanka by nine wickets in a one-sided affair
New Zealand skipper Tom Latham won the toss and invited Sri Lanka to bat first. The Black Caps bowled out Sri Lanka by 141 runs in 19 overs, with Adam Milne claiming a five-wicket haul. Benjamin Lister took two wickets, with Henry Shipley, Rachin Ravindra, and James Neesham taking one each. Dhananjaya de Silva and Kusal Perera are the high scorers for Sri Lanka, scoring 37 and 35 runs, respectively.
In the chase, Tim Seifert's unbeaten 79 off 43 balls guided New Zealand to reach the target in 14.4 overs. His knock was studded with six maximums and three boundaries. Furthermore, skipper, Tom Latham also played an unbeaten cameo with 20 off 30 balls to his name. Meanwhile, Kasun Rajitha took New Zealand's lone wicket, dismissing Chad Bowes.
The Black Caps recently won the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka 2-0, eliminating them from qualification for the World Test Championship (WTC) final, which will be played between India and Australia on June 7, at The Oval, in London. The Kiwis also won the ODI series by a similar margin, effectively destroying the visitors' chances of direct qualification for the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup. Notably, the 50-over World Cup is scheduled to be played from October 5, in India.
