The stage is all set for the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024; the marquee event is all set to be held in the UAE and will kick off on October 3. The tournament will also become the very first ICC event to feature the Smart Replay System. The technology has been previously used in The Hundred and the IPL 2024.

In the smart replay system, the TV umpire receives inputs directly from the hawk-eye operators who will be present in the same room as the umpire. This will help the umpire as the hawk-eye cameras assist in capturing every moment clearly through eight high-speed cameras.

"The coverage will feature a minimum of 28 cameras at every game, and will be complemented by a variety of analytical and visual enhancements. The Decision Review System (DRS) will also be available at all matches, with a Hawk-eye Smart Replay System in place that enables the TV umpire to instantly review synchronized multi-angle footage for accurate decision-making," the ICC stated in a release.

The inclusion of hawk-eye cameras will also help the TV umpire have access to more visuals than they previously had, with split-screen imaging available as well. As an example, if a stumping is referred, through the hawk-eye cameras, the TV umpire will be able to request split screen visuals, in order to see if there is any gap between the bat and the ball and not having to ask for UltraEdge (to refer for a caught behind).

The UltraEdge will only come into play when a clear gap between the bat and the ball cannot be seen. As for stumpings, the cameras will provide the TV umpire with multiple visuals in a single frame.

The marquee tournament will kick off on October 3, and the season opener will see Bangladesh women take on Scotland women at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium.
