SMAT 2024: Mumbai announce 17-member squad, Shreyas Iyer named captain
Prithvi Shaw and Siddhesh Lad are also back in the squad.
Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024 will be held between November 23 to December 15. Ahead of the tournament, there were speculations that, Shreyas Iyer will be leading the Mumbai team with red-ball captain, Ajinkya Rahane playing under him. The rumours have turned out to be true as the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has announced the 17-member squad for the upcoming edition of SMAT.
With Iyer leading the side, Prithvi Shaw and Siddhesh Lad are also back in the squad. Shaw as dropped from the Ranji Trophy squad due to fitness issues. Iyer was in marauding form in the Ranji Trophy, he scored 452 runs at 90.40 with two centuries. He scored 233 against Odisha and notched up 142 against Maharashtra. Tanush Kotian, who was with India A team and toured Australia, is back in the squad for the limited-over domestic tournament.

Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy was commenced in 2006-7 and Tamil Nadu became the debut winners. The annual T20 competition that was introduced with the name Inter-State T20 Championship, before it was named as Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. The defending champions this time around are Punjab, as they beat Baroda in the 2023-24 season.
