SMAT 2024: Suryakumar Yadav, Shivam Dube's partnership propels Mumbai to win against Services

Mumbai faced off against Services in the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) 2024. Both sides locked horns at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Tuesday, December 3. The clash began with Mumbai coming in to bat first, and the side got off to a subpar start.
Prithvi Shaw departed for a duck, with Ajinkya Rahane adding 22 runs in 18 deliveries. Furthermore, skipper Shreyas Iyer also only amassed 20 runs before he was sent packing to the pavilion. However, after the top order’s failure, it was the knocks of Suryakumar Yadav and Shivam Dube that stabilised the innings for Mumbai.
Both batters put in an exceptional performance coming out to bat in the middle order. Suryakumar Yadav scored 70 runs in 46 deliveries, while Dube added 71* runs in 37 deliveries.
Thanks to both batters’ brilliant showings, Mumbai managed to post a total of 192 runs in the first innings of the game. As for Services, PS Poonia, Vishal Gaur, VU Yadav, and Amit Shukla were the wicket takers in the first innings with one wicket each to their names.

Mumbai register comfortable 39-run win
The opposition aimed to chase down a target of 193 runs; however, the side got off to a horrid start to the second innings as Nitin Tanwar departed for a duck with Kuwar Pathak adding 14 runs on the board.
Furthermore, things went from bad to worse after Vineet Dhankar departed for a duck as well. Skipper Mohit Ahlawat played a resilient knock and aimed to stabilise the innings by scoring 54 runs in 40 deliveries. However, his knock was not enough to propel Services to a win.

Mumbai’s bowling attack limited their opponents to a total of 153 runs in the second innings, and Mumbai won the clash by 39 runs. Shardul Thakur was the star with the ball, as the Palghar Express took four wickets in his spell, which read 4-0-25-4 at the end of the game. Shams Mulani, too, contributed with a three-wicket haul.
