'It's a stupid game but just love it' - Megan Schutt ahead of 200th international
"It makes you feel a bit old, to be honest. Game one, I didn't even expect to play that in my lifetime," Schutt said.
Australia pacer Megan Schutt is all set to play her 200th international match against South Africa on February 3 at Adelaide Oval. Ahead of that, the 31-year-old looked back at her incredible career, spoke about the positives and negatives and revealed that she never thought of representing Australia on the international stage.
Schutt mentioned that it also makes her feel old but stated that she will continue playing cricket as long as Cricket Australia keeps offering her contract renewals. The Adelaide-born cricketer added that she is striving to get better as the game keeps involving from time to time. She also stated that it’s tough to be a fast bowler in a batter’s game but she enjoys the challenge.
“It makes you feel a bit old, to be honest. Game one, I didn't even expect to play that in my lifetime. So to get to 200 is pretty darn cool and having it at Adelaide Oval is fate in itself and extremely special,” Schutt was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.
“I love the game. It's a stupid game and there's so much more failure than success but I just love it. I love the people that are involved in it, and it's a game that keeps evolving as well. I keep striving to be better. Being a fast bowler in a batter's game is quite tough but I kind of like the challenge,” she added.
It's a bit harder to get out of bed in the mornings: Megan Schutt
Schutt mentioned that playing 200 games as a fast bowler is a special achievement for her. She made her debut in 2012 and has 260 wickets to her name in international cricket. Speaking about her 12-year-long career so far, Schutt mentioned that it is a bit harder for her to get out of bed in the mornings these days but would continue to push herself to play.
“The most rewarding part is being a bowler and having played that much cricket, there's not many players around that have played as much cricket as I have. I guess not being an express pace bowler helps me, but (reaching 200 games) as a bowler is probably a special achievement. Admittedly, it's a bit harder to get out of bed in the mornings. But I'll keep pushing hard in the gym, doing what I can, and if I keep getting a contract, I will keep playing,” she mentioned.
