Team India is all set to take on New Zealand in a three-game Test series from Wednesday, October 16. Both sides will play the first Test at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru from October 16-20, and with the race for a spot in the WTC final getting hotter than ever, India will aim to register wins in every game and make their case even stronger.

With the first Test against New Zealand rapidly approaching, India will look to set the best of squads for their first Test clash. However, skipper Rohit Sharma recently came forward and talked about the future of India’s Test team.

Rohit highlighted the importance of nurturing the Indian Test team of the future. He talked about the potential of Nitish Kumar Reddy and Harshit Rana and how both players could be important to India in the future.

"Sometimes you have to fast track someone. And that is only in the betterment of Indian cricket. We want to create guys where even if there are injuries, we have someone to quickly step in and take that role. Nitish and Harshit both are quite talented individuals,” Rohit Sharma said in the pre-game press conference.

“In the future, they are going to provide a lot of stability to the team moving forward. Just want to see what they are capable of, what they have to offer. Just having a chat around what they think about Test cricket and stuff like that. Because we don't get to talk to them so much. So it's always nice to just have them around and see their mindset, where they are at and what they think about playing Test cricket,” he added.

It is worth noting that currently, India are the WTC table toppers with eight wins and two losses in 11 Tests. To reach the WTC final, India will have to clean-sweep the Black Caps and win a single Test of the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia.
