Veteran Indian batter Rohit Sharma has been exceptional for the Indian team across the years, amassing runs across formats. Rohit is undoubtedly one of the most consistent players for India and has been influential as the skipper as well.

The 36-year-old led the Men in Blue to the summit clash of the ODI World Cup 2023, and with the T20 World Cup around the horizon in 2024, there have been reports that Rohit will be leading the side in the tournament as well. Speaking of the same, former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly opined that Rohit should be leading the Indian team across formats.

“Once Rohit is back playing all formats, he should be the captain of India because he has done so well in the World Cup and he is a leader, so I expect and presume that he will continue as captain till the T20 World Cup,” Sourav Ganguly said.

Kohli and Rohit are an integral part of the Indian cricket team: Ganguly

Ganguly also came in support of Virat Kohli and Rohit skipping out on white-ball assignments against South Africa. It is worth noting that India is all set to take on South Africa for three T20Is and three ODIs in December 2023. The side will also take on the Proteas in two Test matches as well. Both Kohli and Rohit will skip the white-ball series but will play the two-game Test series.

"You saw how Virat and Rohit played in the World Cup. They are an absolutely integral and important part of the Indian cricket team. World Cups and bilaterals (series) are different because the pressures are different. They were exceptional in the World Cup and hopefully six-seven months down the line they will again be the best in the West Indies,” Ganguly said.
