Sourav Ganguly unfollows Virat Kohli on Instagram in retaliation
Ganguly and Kohli were seen avoiding each other during RCB vs DC clash on April 15 as they didn't shake hands.
The animosity between star cricketer Virat Kohli and former BCCI President Sourav Ganguly doesn’t seem to end as the duo has shown their disliking for each other quite openly. Days after Kohli unfollowed Ganguly on Instagram, the former India captain also returned the favour to make his annoyance evident.
The duo has not been on talking terms which was clearly visible during the Royal Challengers Bangalore vs Delhi Capitals clash in the Indian Premier League 2023 on April 15 at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. During the match, Kohli was spotted giving a death stare to Ganguly who’s the Director of Cricket at DC.
A few more moments went viral from the match where both Ganguly and Kohli were seen avoiding each other as they didn’t even shake hands after the game. The seeds for the current cold relations between Ganguly and Kohli were sown during the former’s tenure as the BCCI President in 2021.
After various media speculations about the change in the Indian captaincy, Kohli stepped down as T20I captain in the lead-up to T20 World Cup 2021. However, the star cricketer clearly mentioned in his statement that he will be continuing to lead India in ODIs and Tests.
But much to everyone’s surprise, BCCI appointed Rohit Sharma as the captain of the ODI team as well before the tour of South Africa with no statement coming from Kohli. According to reports, BCCI didn’t want split captaincy for both limited-overs formats and Ganguly even claimed that he had asked Kohli to not step down from T20I captaincy in an interview.
No one from BCCI contacted Kohli before sacking him as ODI captain
Kohli, however, denied Ganguly’s claims during a press conference and said that no one had asked him to continue in his position. The star batter even stepped down from the Test captaincy a month later to reportedly make his frustration known to the Board and to the entire world.
The entire dispute took place during a phase when Kohli was also struggling to score runs across formats. But the star batter has made a remarkable comeback since Asia Cup 2022 and has ended his century drought across formats.
Despite finding his rhythm back, Kohli seems to have not forgotten the treatment meted out to him by Ganguly and still has grudges with the former India cricketer.
