Former BCCI president Sourav Ganguly is closely working with the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) as they aim to provide a smooth experience to all the fans in the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023 which is slated to begin on October 5 at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Kolkata meanwhile will be hosting five matches at the iconic Eden Gardens stadium and ahead of that, Ganguly and CAB are not leaving any stones unturned, as they will be hosting multiple marquee matches, including the second semi-final.
Interestingly, CAB has formed a 12-member special committee, which includes many prominent members, including Ganguly to oversee the development of Eden Gardens. Recently, the stadium and the board faced massive criticism when a fire broke out in the away dressing room. Thus, in order to prevent such incidents, the committee is working tirelessly and expects the work to be completed well before the tournament kicks off. Notably, Ganguly was the CAB chief when Eden Gardens hosted the T20 World Cup final in 2016 and later worked as BCCI head during T20 World Cup 2021. Hence, he has experience in handling major tournaments and gave an update on the development of the project.
“Eden's work is going well. The work will be completed in time,” Ganguly was quoted as saying by India Today.
Other than Ganguly, former CAB president Avishek Dalmiya is also part of the committee and so is Snehasish Ganguly, who is currently heading CAB. Speaking about the entire work process, Sourav’s elder brother assured that everything is going pretty smoothly and they expect a massive success in the tournament.
“We have made a committee of 12 members for the World Cup. Both Sourav and Avishek who is the member of IPL governing council have been kept. All of us are ready to achieve success in this great yajna,” Snehasish mentioned.
On the other hand, the tickets for the matches in Eden Gardens will go live on September 2 from 8 pm onwards.
