South Africa Squad for T20 World Cup 2024: Complete Player List and Squad Details

The 2024 edition of the T20 World Cup is scheduled to be jointly-hosted by the West Indies and the USA in June. On Tuesday, April 30, Cricket South Africa (CSA) announced their 15-member squad for the marquee event and also named a couple of reserve players.

Unsurprisingly, Aiden Markram will be spearheading the team at the showpiece tournament. In-form wicketkeeper-batters Quinton de Kock, Heinrich Klaasen, and Tristan Stubbs have also been named in the squad. The former is expected to open the innings with Reeza Hendricks. Meanwhile, David Miller is set to play the important role of the finisher in the star-studded line-up. Ryan Rickelton has gotten the nod of the selectors ahead of fellow wicketkeeper-batter Donovon Ferreira. The former has played four Tests and two ODIs but is yet to receive his maiden T20I cap.

Keshav Maharaj, Tabraiz Shamsi, and Bjorn Fortuin are the three specialist spinners picked in the squad. Meanwhile, the pace department will be headlined by the troika of Kagiso Rabada, Anrich Nortje, and Gerald Coetzee. In the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, Rabada has produced decent performances but Coetzee has been in sensational form, having bagged 12 wickets in eight matches at 24. However, Nortje's form has been a huge concern as the injury-prone speedster has conceded runs at an economy rate of 13.36 and recently lost his place in the Delhi Capitals side to compatriot Lizaad Williams.

Uncapped Ottniel Baartman, who emerged as the second-highest wicket-taker in SA20 2024, has also been picked in the squad. Marco Jansen, the leading wicket-taker in SA20 2024, will be playing the role of a seam-bowling all-rounder in the Proteas line-up. The experienced Lungi Ngidi and the promising Nandre Burger have been named as the travelling reserves.

South Africa have been placed in Group D in the T20 World Cup 2024 alongside teams like Sri Lanka, Netherlands, Bangladesh, and Nepal. Markram and Co. will begin their campaign on June 3, as they take on former champions Sri Lanka in New York.
