South Africa international Wayne Parnell has signed for Durham in the ongoing T20 Blast. Notably, there are a couple of injury concerns in the squad and on top of that, pacer Matthew Potts too, is ruled out as the 24-year-old has been called up to the England squad for the upcoming series against Ireland and the all-important Ashes 2023. Thus, Durham acted quickly and got their hands on the experienced bowling all-rounder.
Notably, the cricketer recently featured for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL 2023. He picked up nine wickets in seven matches and played a crucial part for the three-time finalists but could not help the team qualify for the playoffs. Meanwhile, in international cricket, Parnell has picked up 59 wickets in the shortest format and has a career-best of 5/30 against Ireland.
Meanwhile, after signing for the county club, Parnell stated that he is delighted to have this opportunity. He also added that he is aware of the English conditions and will try to use his experience in order to help the team win games.
“I’m delighted to have this opportunity to play for Durham. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my previous spells in England, and everyone speaks well of Durham,” Parnell was quoted as saying by Durham’s official website.
On the other hand, Durham’s Director of Cricket, Marcus North, added that Parnell’s international experience will come in handy for the team in the competition. He also added that the South African international has the experience of leading a team and, thus, can guide the youngsters of Durham
“Wayne is an experienced international-level T20 bowler with a proven track record of delivering performances in franchise cricket. His experience of playing for and captaining T20 teams around the world will be valuable to us this season. He bowls left-arm pace and can provide runs down the order with the bat. He has played a lot of white ball cricket in England and he comes straight to Durham on the back of a good stint in the IPL so he is ready to play when he arrives this weekend,” said North.
