SRH Team 2024 Player List: Complete Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) Squad and Players List for IPL 2024
SRH kept the grapevine abuzz by unleashing the second biggest buy in history of IPL as they bought Pat Cummins for INR 20.5 crore.
Sunrisers Hyderabad faced a pivotal moment in their quest to revamp their squad and surge ahead in the upcoming 2024 IPL edition during the recent auction. Holding the second-largest purse at INR 34 crore, they had a golden opportunity to redefine their team dynamics and address critical shortcomings that plagued their performance last season. As a result, they pulled out all the stops for Australia skipper, Pat Cummins, by breaking the bank for the star bowler as they spent a collosal INR 20.5 crore in a standoff with Royal Challengers Bangalore, Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings.
The absence of a reliable opening pair after David Warner's departure and the underperformance of big names like Harry Brook contributed to SRH's lacklustre run in the previous season. The constant shuffling in the opening slots added to their woes, highlighting the pressing need for stability at the top. With an eye for a swashbuckling overseas opener, they scouted Australia opener Travis Head for INR 6.8 crore in a steal deal as CSK gave up their bid in the course.
Rashid Khan's departure had left a void in the team's bowling artillery, and SRH had keenly felt the absence of a match-winning leg-spinner since then. Recognising this gap, the team aimed to secure a seasoned leg-spinner to bolster their lineup, and they made adjustments for the same and in another big steal grabbed Sri Lankan spinning maestro Wanindu Hasaranga, for a mere INR 1.5 crore with no fight from opponents.
SRH had lacked the presence of prominent Indian internationals, they relied heavily on the likes of Bhuvneshwar Kumar amid a lineup dominated by promising young talents such as Umran Malik and Mayank Markande. They shed their purse for Jaydev Unadkat, spending INR 1.6 crore. Uncapped players, Akash Singh former CSK player joined for the base price of INR 20 lakh, and Jhatavedh Subramaniam too was recruited for the base price of INR 20 lakh.
SRH entered the auction addressing vital spots to be filled
Having finished at the bottom of the points table last year, SRH entered the auction in Dubai with an intention to reverse their fortunes. Retaining 19 players and releasing six, they had six slots to fill and made a significant trade by acquiring Shahbaz Ahmed from Royal Challengers Bangalore. Additionally SRH boasted a roster of overseas players like Heinrich Klaasen, Marco Jansen, Glenn Phillips, Fazalhaq Farooqi, and Aiden Markram.
With a clear focus on securing a top-order overseas batter to fill the void left by departures and provide impactful performances, SRH aimed to emulate the success they achieved in past seasons, where the contributions of standout overseas batters like David Warner and Kane Williamson played a pivotal role in their triumphs. As the auction unfolded, the anticipation for SRH's moves was high, as their choices could potentially redefine the team's outlook for the upcoming IPL season, emphasising the importance of strategic acquisitions in shaping a formidable squad.
