Sri Lanka announce 15-member squad for ACC Men's Emerging Teams Asia Cup
Dunith Wellalage will lead the hosts in the tournament, which starts from July 13.
Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) have announced their squad for the upcoming ACC Men's Emerging Teams Asia Cup. The fifth edition of the tournament will be played out in Sri Lanka from July 13 to 23.
The squad will be led by Dunith Wellalage, with Minod Bhanuka and Lahiru Udara as the two wicketkeeper options. The Honorable Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs, Roshan Ranasinghe, gave his approval for the squad for the tournament. Sri Lanka A is placed in Group A alongside Oman A, Bangladesh A, and Afghanistan A are in the group as well. As for Group B, it consists of Nepal A, Pakistan A, UAE A and India A.
With the tournament all set to get underway soon, it could be interesting to see which side comes out on top after the 10-day affair. With eight teams competing, six teams have announced their squads for the tournament. India A will be led by Yash Dhull, with Abhishek Sharma as his deputy whereas Mohammad Haris will captain Pakistan A. Saif Hassan has been named Bangladesh A's skipper, Shahidullah Kamal will be Afghanistan A's incharge, while Rohit Paudel will lead Nepal.
The tournament will be held in a round-robin format, with the top two of both groups facing each other in the semi-finals of the 50-over tournament. It is worth noting that the women’s edition of the tournament was held in June, with India A emerging victorious in Bangladesh. While the women’s tournament was played in the T20 format, the men’s version was played in the 50-over format.
