St George Park in South Africa awaits Rinku Singh's autograph on broken glass shield
"It is located at a specific height here and it will be a tough job to get it changed," said ground management.
When India toured South Africa in December 2023, Rinku Singh stamped his authority, not only played a fiery knock of 68 runs off just 38 balls but also ended up breaking the glass of the venue's press box. Notably, the second T20I of the series was held at St George Park, in Port Elizabeth. Rinku, who came in to bat at number five, smashed nine boundaries and two maximums in his unbeaten knock.
However, the glass has not been replaced even after a year has passed after the incident. The St George Park management has stated that the ground is awaiting the power hitter’s arrival at the venue to get the broken glass shield autographed by him. The ground management also added that the height at which the damaged area was located, became complex to repair.
"You see, it is located at a specific height here and it will be a tough job to get it changed. Someone would have to be hoisted on a crane and then the repair work will be carried out, but we have focused on the more serious matters which have kept coming up," a ground management official said on conditions of anonymity as quoted by TOI.

"The ground is located near the (Indian) ocean, which means we have to constantly keep working to avoid corrosion in metallic pillars that support various stands and structures at the venue. Also, the glass "hasn't harmed anyone so far and doesn't look like it will. Maybe we can get it autographed by Rinku whenever he comes over here next," he added.

Rinku last played in South Africa in November
Speaking of Rinku Singh, the southpaw was part of India’s squad for the T20 World Cup 2024 as a travelling reserve but could not feature in the 15-member squad. The batter travelled to South Africa in November 2024 for the T20I series. Moreover, he also played a game at St George’s Park, but the ground management might have missed out on his autograph.
