Former Australian cricketer Stuart Law has been appointed Nepal men’s head coach for the next two years. The Australian batter's first duty will be a tri-series in June between Nepal, Scotland, and Netherlands as part of World Cup League 2 fixtures.
Law replaces Monty Desai, who served as the coach for the past two years until his tenure ended in February. The Australian has extensive coaching experience, including a recent stint with the USA men’s team, which he left in October 2024.
The Queensland-born cricketer's tenure as the USA head coach lasted merely seven months despite the team beating Bangladesh in a T20I series and qualifying into the Super-Eights stage of the 2024 T20 World Cup for the first time in their history after a historic victory over Pakistan. While he was contracted for three years, USA Cricket announced his departure midway through the team's ICC Men's Cricket World Cup League 2 campaign.
The former batter has previously been the head coach for Bangladesh, West Indies, Sri Lanka and Afghanistan on an interim basis in the past. He has also coached Bangladesh Under-19 team and led Bangladesh to their first Asia Cup final in 2012. The former right-handed batter has also had roles in Australia, including batting coach to the national team, a job with CA’s Centre of Excellence, and coaching the Under-19 team.
Under Desai’s coaching, Nepal had whitewashed USA in three-match T20I series after their second appearance in the T20 world Cup. Nepal had also won 3-0 in an ODI series at home against Canada. The team also made its debut in Asia Cup before the ODI World Cup in 2023 but failed to secure a victory in the tournament.
