Sunil Gavaskar coins new nickname for Shubman Gill, Indian opener accepts it gleefully

India’s young batting sensation Shubman Gill have been given a new nickname by the Little Master, Sunil Gavaskar. The batter from Punjab has impressed everyone with his form and consistency in the recent times. Hence, it is no surprise that he is considered as India's future batting star.

Gill, with his solid technique and the ability to score runs in any situation, made the former Indian legend to come up with a new nickname for the youngster. Gavaskar titled the young Indian opener as ‘Smoothman Gill.' The 23-year-old cricketer, accepted it with a heartfelt reaction.

During the post match interview after the second ODI played between India and New Zealand on Star Sports, Gavaskar told Gill, “I have given you a new nickname, Smoothman Gill. I hope you don’t mind”, To this, Gill smiled and replied, “I don’t mind at all, sir”.

Gill also revealed that it was always dream to play alongside Rohit Sharma. During the post match interview at Star Sports, he said, “It’s always a dream to bat with Rohit bhai, have learnt a lot batting along with him. Me and Ishan Kishan) are best mates, we spend a lot of time off-field together, it was great to spend some time batting together,” We spend a lot of time off-field together", the dashing opener concluded.

The young Indian opener showed his sublime form in the ongoing ODI series against New Zealand. Gill took the world by storm by scoring a magnificent double hundred in the first match. Furthermore, he remained unbeaten (40*) in the second match, which propelled Team India to gain an unassailable lead of 2-0 in the series. 

Moreover, Gill broke into the record books by becoming the youngest batter to score a double hundred in the ODIs. It will be interesting to see how the Punjab based cricketer will fare in the last ODI to be played at Indore.
